Ice Cream Trend of the Summer: The Sandwich

Every year the foodies of the world predict what foods will be the trendy foods in the coming year. Last year, foods like the pretzel bun and cronut were all the rage. It was predicted that one of the big food trends of 2014 would be the ice cream sandwich. Now with summer underway, it is safe to say that their predictions were accurate, with strange new ice cream sandwiches like the Churro Ice Cream Sandwich popping up in restaurants and markets.

The ice cream sandwiches of 2014 aren't just your typical cookie and ice cream combination either. Chefs and foodies are putting a creative spin on the traditional dessert. Here are a few of the highlights of this summer's dessert trend:

Instead of just scooping ice cream between two cookies, dessert lovers are finding other delicious things to create sandwiches. Some examples are: churros, waffles, donuts, cookie dough and more.

Hot and Cold

Traditionally the sandwich is served cold but this summer chefs have been serving it hot too. Some shops are putting ice cream in warm buns and donuts. The result is a treat that is both warm and cool!
