What to Watch this Halloween

Are you stuck at home this Halloween handing out candy to trick-or-treaters? Why not spend your night watching some scary ice cream themed movies and TV shows. For some reason, some Hollywood shows and movies have decided to create  scary, creep movies when it comes to ice cream.. We’re not sure why and while we would normally fight against it, we figured Halloween is the perfect time to embrace it.

Ice Cream Man

Released in 1995, Ice Cream Man is not a very good movie. However, some say that it is so bad that its good. A young boy witnesses the murder of the local ice cream man by a drive-by shooter. Years later after a long stay in a mental hospital, the young boy returns to the town to become the ice cream man . As the ice cream man becomes a murderous and sadistic human, in the most comedic way possible, a group of local boys begin to fear for their safety and follow the ice cream man around to catch him in the act. This movie is sure to comedically haunt your dreams.

Masters of Horror—We All Scream for Ice Cream

This episode of Masters of Horror is a very scary show to watch this Halloween. Aired in January 2007, this episode begins with a man melting after his son eats an ice cream cone. But apparently the story began long before the man’s death. One of his friends, Layne, tells his wife about their shared past. When they were young, there was a kind ice cream man who dressed as a clown. Despite being friendly, the town bully began to make fun of and attacked the ice cream man. One day, the ice cream man, Buster, died with no explanation. Buster’s ghost has returned for revenge and it is up to Layne to get rid of the evil spirit to save the town.

Charmed—We All Scream for Ice Cream

Beginning with a small child being taken into a creepy old ice cream truck, the Charmed Ones are on the case. While the Halliwell sisters believe that they are saving kidnapped children from an ice cream truck and a spirit called “The Nothing”, they have actually been tricked. The innocent looking children are actually demons captured by the ice cream man and his truck to help the greater good. As it turns out, Prue has a past with the ice cream man. Tune in to see what happens.

Legion—Ice Cream Man Scene

This movie is unrelated to ice cream and almost unrelated to ice cream men and ice cream trucks. However, there is one spooky scene we wanted to show you to make sure you had an extra creepy Halloween.

Halloween Milkshakes

Did you know that Americans spend $2 billion on Halloween candy every year? That’s a lot of money. Why not try saving some money by creating the treats yourself and handing out spooky ice cream treats and milkshakes. You’re sure to be the most creative house on the block.

When we think of Halloween we think of jack-o’-lanterns, candy corn, and scary faces. Now, you can incorporate those symbols to create some tasty Halloween themed milkshakes. There are tons of options to create creepy looking milkshakes. You can use scary glasses or make milkshake to look like your favorite Halloween candies to help you let out your creative and chilling side. Let’s see what spooky Halloween milkshakes we can create together this week.

Ghost Milkshakes

There are two ways to make ghost milkshakes, both of which call for 48 oz. of Vanilla Moo ice cream.

What You’ll Need

• Vanilla Moo ice cream
• Milk
• Glasses
• Chocolate Sauce
• Strawberry Syrup

Steps

1. Make a vanilla milkshake by mixing Vanilla Moo ice cream and milk in a blender.
2. Take some chocolate sauce and decorate the inside of a cup with a scary face.
3. If you are feeling extra creepy, take some strawberry syrup and have it drip down from the eyes to make it look like  they are bleeding.
4. Finally, fill your cup with your delicious milkshake and serve.

This recipe takes a simple and classic vanilla milkshake and turns it into a creepy dessert to scare all your friends.

Vampire Floats

What You’ll Need

• Vanilla Moo ice cream
• Hawaiian Punch
• Vampire fangs

Steps

1. Fill your glass with two scoops of Vanilla Moo.
2. Top the ice cream with Hawaiian Punch.
3. If you’re feeling really festive, you can add pair of vampire fangs to your straw so people know you’re drinking blood.

This spooky treat is bound to creep out your friends and family and would go perfectly with a vampire costume.

Candy Corn Milkshakes

What You’ll Need

• 1 qt of Vanilla Moo ice cream
• Orange and yellow food coloring
• Black and orange sprinkles
• Whipped cream
• Clear cups or glasses

Steps

1. Let the ice cream soften for about 20-30 minutes.
2. Split the ice cream into thirds.Put each third into a separate bowl.
3. Use the orange food coloring to color one of the bowls and the yellow food coloring to another. Mix well to create desired color.
4. Stir plain vanilla ice cream until smooth.
5. Spoon the yellow ice cream into the bottom of your clear cup or glass until 1/3 of the cup is full. Flatten as well as you can and wipe down the top of the glass.
6. Repeat the above step with the orange ice cream on top of the yellow and the plain ice cream on top of the orange ice cream.
7. Be sure to leave a little space at the top of the cup for some whipped cream.
8. Top the milkshake with whipped cream and sprinkles.
9. Freeze until you are ready to serve your candy corn shakes.

Instead of orange and yellow food coloring, you can also use orange and yellow sherbet or sorbet. Just be aware that this will bring in a lot of different flavors to your milkshake.

Bewitching Halloween Treats

Are you thinking of throwing a Halloween Ice Cream Party? You can invite all your friends and tell them to wear a costume.. Complete your party with these spookytreats.  that will make your friends jump out of their masks!

Which Witch Ice Cream Cones

Adapted from Taste of Home, these which witch ice cream cones are fun to make and even better to eat. Keep them in a cold place or serve them right after preparing, or they may start yelling, “I’m melting. I’m melting!”

What you need:

• 8 chocolate ice cream cones
• 1 tube of chocolate decorating icing
• 8 thin, round chocolate wafers
• 1 quart of mint chocolate chip ice cream
• 15 thin pieces of black licorice
• 16 semi-sweet chocolate chips
• 8 candy corns
• Red decorating gel

Steps:

1. Coat the edge of the cones with chocolate icing and stick it on the wafer to make a hat.
2. Scoop eight balls of ice cream onto wax paper.
3. Cut six pieces of licorice and place three on each side toward the top, making hair.
4. Use the chocolate chips to create eyes, a piece of candy corn to make a nose, and the red gel to make a mouth.
5. Then place the hat on top of the witches’ head.
6. Place ice cream in the freezer for at least two hours before serving.
7. Wrap each separately after freezing in you are going to move them.

Ice Cream Eyeballs

This treat will make your guests look twice before eating.

What you need:

• Vanilla Moo ice cream
• Red/Cherry syrup
• M&Ms
• Black decorating gel

Steps:

1. Scoop the ice cream into balls.
2. Drizzle the red/cherry syrup onto the ice cream to create a bleeding or bloodshot effect.
3. Put an M&M on the top to create the color of the eye and a black gel dot on top to make the pupil.

Ice Cream Themed Halloween Costumes

Originally known as All Hallows Eve, Halloween started as the end-of-harvest Celtic festival, Samhain. It was also thought that on Halloween the afterworld and the real world overlap, allowing the dead to cross over and wreak havoc. To mimic and appease evil spirits, people would wear masks and costumes. Although, people began to dress up and beg for treats on Halloween as far back as the Middle Ages, it was not until post-WWII in the US that marketing, sweet, and costume companies began to develop the idea of “Trick-or-Treating”.  With only a few more weeks left until Halloween, the race is on to find the perfect costume. If you and your family love ice cream and want to save a little cash on costumes this year, here are some easy do-it-yourself ice cream costume ideas.

Ice Cream Sandwich Costume

What you need:

• 2 Styrofoam rectangles
• Brown felt
• Glue
• 1 white t-shirt
• 12 white thumbtacks
• Adhesive Velcro

Steps:

1. Cover the Styrofoam with the brown felt using the glue.
2. Use six white thumbtacks on each piece of Styrofoam to create the illusion of the holes.
3. Attach Velcro to the two Styrofoam pieces, connecting them as straps.
4. Wear a white shirt and put the boards over your head.

Ice Cream Cone Costume

What you need:

• An old lampshade
• Tan fabric
• White satin fabric
• Foam
• Poly-fill
• Colored puffballs
• Brown/tan string

Steps:

1. Take the old lampshade and flip it upside down. Surround the top of it (was bottom) with foam and cover it with tan fabric
2. Criss-cross the string on the fabric to create cone pattern and add straps so it can stay on your child’s body.
3. Fill white satin fabric with poly-fill and sew it together.
4. Add colored puffballs to the top of the white satin fabric to create sprinkles.
5. Attach the two parts together once on your child’s body

Feel free to mix up the ice cream design. You can change the flavors and the toppings by just changing the colors of the fabric and sprinkles.

Ice Cream Truck Costume

This costume make takes some more time to create, but it is perfect for stroller-aged kids, since you can incorporate the stroller into the design.

What you need:

• 1 cardboard box
• White paint
• Tape
• Construction paper

Steps:

1. Place the cardboard box over your stroller.
2. Cut two big holes on each side and two small ones for windows and one in the back so you can push the stroller.
3. Angle the top of the box at the front to look like a windshield.
4. Paint the box white
5. Using construction paper and tape, decorate the box with menus, a name, and striped.
6. Attach the box to the stroller using wire clips.
7. Dress your child in white with a small hat you can make out of construction paper.
