Gobble-worthy Thanksgiving Crafts

Edible crafts are a delicious way to bring the family together during the Thanksgiving holiday.  At Cold Cow, we like to incorporate ice cream into our family gatherings.  We have adapted some creative, edible crafts from She Knows that you could do with your family this Thanksgiving.

Waffle Cone Cornucopias
You can get crafty with these ice cream cone cornucopias! The cornucopia has a long and interesting history.  It is known as the horn of plenty and is said to have originated in Greek mythology.

Traditionally, the cornucopia is filled with vegetables and other food produced from the fall harvest, but you can fill these cornucopias with ice cream or some other crunchy goodness.

Tee-pee Topped Cupcakes
Although tee-pees were not used by the Wampanoag people of the first Thanksgiving, these tee-pee topped cupcakes make cute and easy crafts often found at modern Thanksgivings.

Turkey Spoons
Hot beverages like apple cider and coffee are popular choices at Thanksgiving dinners.  You can add some flair to your beverage table with these Turkey Spoons.

Cool Ice Cream and Thanksgiving Dessert Pairings

As a family business, we know the importance of spending Thanksgiving with the people and the ice cream that we love.  We also love traditions like pumpkin pie and ice cream but understand that sometimes it’s nice to try something new. So here are some creative Thanksgiving food and ice cream pairings from our family to yours.

The traditional pairing of Pumpkin Pie and Ice Cream is a staple of any Thanksgiving, but you could mix it up with Pecan Stampede ice cream instead of vanilla.

This one could be a new local favorite!  Try pairing two local Pittsburgh companies together by adding one of Cold Cow’s ice cream flavors like Udderly Vanilla Super Premium with this recipe for Heinz Ketchup Cake from Heinz.  It’s reminiscent of pumpkin spice cake with an added ketchup zing!

A sweet potato dish may be common on Thanksgiving but we have a feeling this Sweet Potato Cheesecake from Martha Stewart would be one of a kind at your dinner.  Pair it with some Gimmi S’more Moo Super Premium ice cream and you might have guests moo-ing for more!

Do you have any chocolate lovers in your family?  If so, pairing our Chocolate Moo Premium ice cream with this recipe for Chocolate Toffee Pecan Tart from the Food Network could steal their heart away.

Lastly, family members that love a little seasonal fruittiness will cherish our Holy Cherry Cow ice cream with this Cranberry Pear and Walnut Cake from Better Homes Better Gardens.  We think the two make a very pear-fect couple!

Which combination will you try at your family dinner?  If you don’t want to venture into the wintery weather for your Cold Cow ice cream, you can always order your flavor ahead and have it delivered to you with our online store!

Warm Up with Apple Pie Floats

November is finally here and even though the weather is getting colder Cold Cow Ice Cream can still warm you up with this recipe for apple pie floats!

Apple Cider has been around even longer than ice cream.  In fact, Chris Lehault, a self-proclaimed cider journalist wrote about how cider played a large part in American history. Do you remember hearing stories about Johnny Appleseed?  Well, thanks to Johnny apple orchards were plentiful and cheap making cider one of early America’s most popular drinks.

Hard cider became less popular after the introduction of German beer but is increasing in popularity recently. Apple cider still remains our seasonal favorite. These tasty drinks put a new spin on an old classic.

We especially like this recipe from Our Best Bites for an apple pie float.  It’s perfect for using that leftover ginger ale in your fridge or for an apple pie treat without the need for a fork!

Apple Cider Floats
Serves: 1
What you’ll need:
1 cup apple cider
1/2 cup ginger ale
1-2 scoops vanilla ice cream
1-2 tablespoons jarred caramel sauce
ground cinnamon or nutmeg for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions:
1. Pour apple cider and ginger ale into a glass. If the apple cider isn't warm, you can warm it in a medium saucepan before pouring.
2. Add vanilla ice cream.
3. Sprinkle nutmeg and cinnamon to taste and drizzle caramel sauce on top.
4. Serve immediately with a straw and a spoon.
You can add a stick of cinnamon or a sliced apple on the glass to make it look extra yummy!

And remember if you need some Udderly Vanilla, or any other premium Cold Cow flavor to pair with this recipe, you can order some online or find a retailer near you!
